The yoga pant donning mom stereotype is not a myth, we all know this. We all do it, walk around in our lulus even if the closest we get to actually practicing yoga is bending over backwards to reach a toy behind some impossibly difficult to move piece of furniture. It’s ok. What’s not ok is thinking that  we can look like shit just because we walk around in exercise clothes all day. Of this latter accusation I am most certainly guilty. In fact, I had to be approached by my make-up artist cousin with a little reality check, and for this I am ever grateful. She so kindly approached me with four little products that transformed me from frump-a-lump mom to cheery-bitch-I-usually-hate. The best part is that it literally takes less than 5 minutes to make me look like I’m revitalized and ready to actually go out in public, which means my morning routine doesn’t have to change and I don’t have to wait for my toddler to go down for her nap to apply some sort of makeup to my face.

Ladies, here are the four products you should all go purchase, today:

  • L’Oreal BB Cream: this little wonder tube saves me the hassle of having to apply foundation or powder. It’s light enough so that my face doesn’t feel caky, while still providing just the right amount of coverage. You apply it like you would moisturizer, no instructions needed. I believe this brand comes in 4 different shades, there are other brands that have a greater array of tones. I stick to L’Oreal because it doesn’t make my skin too oily, which can be a problem with my overly active T-Zone and the Florida heat. I also particularly appreciate the fact that it’s relatively long lasting (I do not have to reapply throughout the day) and that it goes on smoothly (no blotchiness to worry about). It also reacts well with the next item…
  • Benefit Cosmetics HOOLA Bronzer: this gem of a product is my obsession. I sometimes wear it alone. It literally makes you look like you just came back from a tropical vacation, and we all know that’s most certainly NOT the case. Make sure not to apply too much though, or it’ll look like you had one too many piña coladas on your hypothetical vacay…
  • L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara: I’m very picky about mascaras, primarily because I HATE clumps. I can not stand them. The big pros to this mascara is that gives definition without making you look like you’re heading to da club…It separates and lengthens without making your lashes feel thick and heavy. I wear it without any shadow, literally apply and go.
  • Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm: I have to admit I was skeptical about venturing into the world of tinted lip balms. I did not want to look like I had colored wax on my lips. I have been pleasantly surprised with the Burt’s Bees balm. Let’s face it, as moms we are just looking for something that’ll give a little life to our lips without the hassle (and stickiness) of gloss. I don’t know about you, but I get bitch-slapped by my kid at least 5 times a day, the last thing I want to do is have to wash gooey lipgloss off of her hands…The tinted lip balm lives in my purse now, and I love it.

Give these products a go in the mornings and let me know how they work out for you! Here’s to not looking like we are all sleep-deprived, even though we are…
